Having No Doubt: A Daughter’s Reflection on Faith, Love, and Legacy

It was an honor to serve and care for my mother. It brought me great joy.
In our last conversation, the morning she left to be with the Lord, I told her how much happiness caring for her had given me. She looked at me and asked, “Oh, do you like taking care of people?”
I smiled and said, “Nursing was not my calling, but I love taking care of you. It brings me great joy.”
God had already prepared my heart for this sacred assignment. In August, He asked me quietly, “Will you stay with her?”
And without hesitation, I said, “Yes, Lord. I will stay.”
That morning, as she headed out the door to her appointment, I kissed her on the forehead and told her I loved her and would see her later. She said, “I love you too. See you later, Pal!”
I just knew she would come home that day to eat the pork chops and fried potatoes with onions I was preparing for her. But God, in His infinite wisdom, had other plans. He was ready to welcome her home. The sovereign will of God—Amen.
I had planned to stay until she completed her physical therapy sessions on the 24th. Instead, that morning became her Homegoing Celebration. Giving her eulogy was the final act of service I could offer her—the completion of my assignment.
Was it hard? Yes. But it was an honor to serve the Woman of God who had placed a microphone in my hand at nine years old. To stand and speak of her faith, her strength, and her love in that final capacity was a sacred privilege I will never forget.
The Lord kept His word to me. The morning of her Wake, He whispered a promise from Psalm 20:2:
“May He send you help from the sanctuary and give you strength from Zion.”
And He did just that. He gave me strength for that day—and more strength for the next.
I loved Evangelist Dora Mae Reed first as my Mother. She was my mentor. And over the years, she became my friend. That’s when I became “Pal”—a name she said with affection, laughter, and love.
My mother was a woman of great faith. She carried the gift of faith—the supernatural ability to believe God, no matter the circumstance. Having no doubt, she called it.
And that is my prayer now—to walk with God, having no doubt. I believe that was her parting gift to us all: faith that doesn’t flinch, trust that doesn’t waver, and love that never fails.
Her legacy continues—in every prayer I pray, every word I speak, and every life I touch.
