I love the gift of Sunday Mornings with Pamela Cone. It is an opportunity to minister to the Body of Christ all around the world, and I do not take that lightly—especially when we are blessed to have amazing guests like Jessi Johnson.

Our conversation with Jessi was rooted in the goodness of God and salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. While we provide space for guests to share their work and brands, Jessi's desire was to share the ministry God has entrusted to him. His message was centered on the transformational power of God.

During his time with us, he reminded us of what Romans 6:4 declares: just as Christ was raised from the dead, we also are raised to walk in the newness of life. Through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary, our sins are forgiven and blotted out, and we are made free from the power and dominion of Sin. We are no longer bound to Sin. In fact, we become dead to Sin and alive unto God. This is where our new life begins—a new life in Christ Jesus. We have been made new.

Hope, joy, and peace come with this understanding. For me, it felt as though the weight of the world had been lifted from my heart and soul. My life was in shambles and void of direction. I was searching for peace. I was raised in the House of God, but I needed to seek God for myself. I was 22 years old. I’m now 55, and I have never looked back. 

David wrote, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered” (Psalm 32:1). The Apostle Paul later declared, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

With this newfound understanding of freedom in Christ, I began to walk like a new creation. No longer bound by Sin and no longer held captive by the shame of my sins. Romans 6:21 reminds us that there were things “whereof ye are now ashamed.” Shame was attached to the old life, but that old life was buried with Christ.

I left that old Pamela in the grave!

I often preach and declare, “I don't allow anyone to dig up my grave!” And neither do I. The old woman has been crucified with Christ. The old life was buried. The old record was forgiven, and my sins were blotted out. I rejoice in knowing that I am dead to Sin and alive unto God. No longer bound. No longer condemned. No more chains holding me.

Salvation is the best thing that ever happened to me!

Without this understanding, it is possible to continue walking in condemnation even after receiving the gift of salvation. Romans 8:1 declares, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

Jessi also spoke about the importance of renewing our minds. The mind is powerful. It holds memories of our past, our failures, our disappointments, and the things we are ashamed of. Yet Hebrews tells us that the Blood of Jesus purges our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Sin is weighty! Sin is bondage! Sin is a yoke!

But through Jesus Christ we are forgiven, free, and made alive unto God. We can walk in the newness of life.

Our guest also reminded us of the importance of spending time with the Father in prayer. Now that we have been reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, we have access to Him. We can come boldly before Him. We can find strength in His Word. We can receive direction for our lives. We have the power to live for Him through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

I want to encourage you today: you are not powerless against Sin.

Jesus paid the price for your freedom.

Jesus paid the price for your redemption.

Jesus paid the price for your reconciliation.

Believe and trust in HIm. Accept His love. Receive His forgiveness. Walk in the freedom He has provided. Walk in the newness of life that is yours in Christ Jesus.

It is the best decision I have ever made!
