Moments of Expectation

My mother has shared the story of my birth many times. I entered the world on Labor Day, 1970, at 2:00 p.m. With great expectation, my parents awaited my arrival. That same year, they had purchased their first home in January, and I think I may have been a product of their celebration.

Her desire was for a sandy-haired girl, and she often tells how morning sickness first hit my dad before her. Maybe that explains why I look so much like him.

But today, my thoughts are not only on the details of my arrival, but on the truth that God had chosen me before the moment I entered this world. According to Ephesians 1:4, His thoughts and plans toward me were set before the foundation of the world. This is echoed again in Titus 1:1-2, that I was a part of God’s plan, to be among His elect, even before the world began.

As I step into this new season, I am reminded that seeking alignment with the thoughts God has for me brings about great expectations. His Word declares: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11, KJV)

The selfies in this graphic were taken in moments when I could feel the alignment of my life with God’s thoughts toward me. I felt as if I was walking in tandem with Him. Walking in the will of God, by chasing destiny, makes me feel safe. My expectation for this next season is a greater measure of grace: to continue walking toward His will without fear and with great expectations.
