God is Trustworthy

In this portion of our conversation with Brother Jessi, we were talking about living a surrendered life. I wanted to encourage my brothers and sisters in that moment because, let’s face it, sometimes surrendering is Hard.

I believe that, as God’s creation, we all have an instinctive draw toward Him in some way. We sense the pull, we sense the drawing, but we don’t always lean into it. There’s a reluctance.

I want to encourage you to sit with that reluctance. Interrogate it. Why am I reluctant to surrender? Where is my trust lacking?

These are questions I cannot answer for you. Only you and God can answer them through honest and open communication. (I promise He prefers your honesty. That’s what allows Him to do His best work!) But hopefully, by briefly sharing what helps me in my moments of reluctance, I can spark something in you. Something that helps you along your journey from reluctance to genuine surrender.

To put it plainly, what helps me choose God’s way when my own way seems much easier is remembering that God is TRUSTWORTHY!

When I take an honest moment to consider whether His way is truly better than mine (this may sound too candid, but this is the type of transparency that keeps me so near to Him), my mind goes to two places—God’s Word, and His track record in my life thus far.

His Word gives me the history of a faithful God who has always had good plans for His children. And His track record in my life tells me it’s all true; His Word is not just a collection of “stories”. When I put His patterns throughout history with the ways I’ve seen Him in my life, I’m reminded that just like a good parent, God knows what I don’t know, and He sees what I don’t see. Each decision to trust Him has revealed a path far better than any course I could chart for myself. This recall convinces me to take another step.

I’m going to leave you with a few of my favorite scriptures that keep me going. As you read them, my prayer is that you feel drawn to search the scriptures for yourself. Go to the scriptures that consistently speak to you and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you deeper from there.

I also pray that you’re moved to think back on the times when God’s faithfulness was evident in your life. Don’t be afraid to write those moments down! This will help you remember His faithfulness when you need another boost of confidence to trust Him.

Ultimately, my prayer is that this encourages you to lean more fully into the plans of your Trustworthy God.

Some of my Go-To Scriptures

(I’m using the Christian Standard Bible (CSB) - but use the translation that resonates with you best.)

Psalm 139:13-14

For it was You who created my inward parts;

You knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I will praise You

because I have been remarkably

and wondrously made.

Your works are wondrous,

and I know this very well.

Ephesians 2:10 (emphasis added)

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.

Jeremiah 1:5 (emphasis added)

I chose you before I formed you in the womb;

I set you apart before you were born…

2 Timothy 1:9 (emphasis added)

He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.

Isaiah 55:8-11

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

and your ways are not my ways.”

This is the Lord’s declaration.

“For as heaven is higher than earth,

so my ways are higher than your ways,

and my thoughts than your thoughts.

…my word that comes from my mouth

will not return to me empty,

but it will accomplish what I please

and will prosper in what I send it to do.”

God’s plans for you have been consistent since the beginning of time. Be encouraged. Trust Him.

D’Ambria, your words are filled with such grace and love! Thank you for sharing your heart and helping us continue the conversation with Jessi Johnson from SMWPC in such a meaningful way. “God is trustworthy” is such a needed reminder, and your reflection encourages us to rest in the truth of who God is! Beautifully written!

This was beautiful. And so true, leaning on and trusting God is hard, especially when it seems like we've been in a particular place of longing and hope for a long time.

This was such a wonderful reminder thag God is God, and no matter how things may seem, He wants the best for my life. 😊
