Boundaries Are for Man, Not for God

As we seek to grow both interpersonally and spiritually, we often struggle to ensure that our lives align with the divine plan laid out before us. This alignment is not just about reaching goals or accomplishing objectives. There is a deeper, more intimate alignment of our soul that needs to happen with what I call holding your destiny. Your destiny is simply the thoughts and desires of God for you.
In doing so, our hearts have to be open to allowing God to move in our souls. This movement requires open access! We rightly set boundaries in our relationships, in our work, and with our time. Boundaries are healthy; they protect, preserve, and give balance. However, there is one space where setting boundaries hinders us. This space for our spiritual formation journey is in our souls. Our heart, which is a faculty of our soul, must be open for the power of God to move and bring about the necessary changes we need to rise to meet our destiny.
We can unknowingly hang a “Do Not Enter” sign over the sacred places of our hearts. Perhaps it's due to fear, disappointment, or a sense of control. But when we restrict the Holy Spirit’s access to the deepest places within us, we not only delay God’s preparation in our lives, but we also hinder our spiritual formation.
In Genesis 1:2, we should recognize God's pattern: “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
When God re-established order on earth, light, and life, the Holy Spirit had to move on the face of the waters. That same Spirit desires to move upon our hearts today, to bring us order in chaos, clarity in confusion, and separation from distraction, all for preparation for purpose. But he won’t push past the boundaries we erect!
The Holy Spirit spoke to my heart and said, "Boundaries are for man, not for God."
The Holy Spirit must be welcomed and given full access to shape our thoughts, move in our desires, and upon our will, molding us into who God would have us to be. It is only through this divine movement that we can become aligned with God’s will and His purpose.
There's much more I could write on the subject of surrendering to God's will to allow the Holy Spirit to work within our souls, but I will encourage you in this short entry to just open your hearts and let Him in. Remove the borders of your heart, and allow the Holy Spirit to move on your heart.
