God: The Safest Space to Be Vulnerable

God is the safest space to be vulnerable. However, we must grow to trust Him with the truth of who we are. It would seem trusting God with who we are should be easy, as he already knows who we are. He created us!

"For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust."

Psalm 103:14

Too often, we seek this type of sacred space with others, hoping to be fully seen, known, and accepted, but often find our search to be unfruitful. The lack of space from others stems from our personal experiences, which prevents us from being gracious to others. We may find it difficult to give what we have not fully received. So, we guard ourselves. With God, we can be completely open and transparent! He already knows us intimately and still calls us worthy for all He has designed for us.

Because we may not have experienced it with others, we don't recognize the availability to do so with God. We don't know what it is to be free in this manner. Vulnerability before Him is not weakness! Being vulnerable before God is the posture of surrender that allows Him to prepare and sustain us. Vulnerability in God’s presence strengthens us! In his presence is the space that has been designed for us.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High

shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty”

Psalm 91:1

Let’s consider King David. Opposed to hiding from God, he exposed himself to God. He prayed, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts” (Psalm 139:23). David opened his soul to God.

I’ve searched for a sacred space, in relationship with others, to be my completely open self, without judgment, and I have not found it. I desire to do so and to be that space for others. What I do know is vulnerability with God is available to us, and does not hurt us; it helps us. He is our ultimate divine, eternal, safe, and no one can take the place in our lives that he holds.

When we allow ourselves to be fully known in our relationship with God, the truth of who we are, shared openly with Him, becomes a wider door leading to a space for spiritual growth and blessed assurance.
